Hello, i want to move in NY( manhattan) but i don’t know witch parts of Manhattan is best for living?

So i want to live in Manhattan, but i realy don’t know were, I am florist and i can’t pay a very expensive rent, and i don’t wanna live in criminal part of the city …. if somebody can help me, i am not even from Usa….so i realy need some advice!
Thanx a lot

If that is the case, you will not be living in Manhattan. You will likely live in Queens. There are many nice, safe areas of Queens.

It might make sense for you to know where people of your similar ethnic background live so you can build community.

Good luck!

You need a r.e. agent to show you around. Manhattan is so expensive there really are no bad areas — that’s what I’ve heard anyway.

(Technically, Harlem, Inwood, and Washington Heights are in Manhattan. They are not as crime-free as other parts of Manhattan, but again it depends on where you can fit in and build community.)

Oh honey, it’s going to be expensive pretty much anywhere in Manhattan though!

That said, my friends live in Chelsea, and they really like it. They are a straight couple, but Chelsea is very much where NYC’s gay community lives, so if that bothers you, you might not want to live there.

You could check online for rent control and subsidized housing in NYC. Good luck to you, and Cheers!

Manhattan is the most expensive real estate in the world.

    Nowhere is cheap!

Look into Queens. A lot of workers commute from there and you have far more choice.

Sorry Lexy, but unfortunately manhattan is not going to be affordable to you. You will need to search queens and Brooklyn. You will at least be able to find a small cheap apartment in the 900 a month range.

If you don’t have alot of money, then you can not live in Manhattan. It’s VERY Expensive (overpriced). It’s not worth it in my opinion.

The last time I was in NYC about 5 years ago, a dosser was asking the passengers on the subway to whip up $10 which was the night’s fee for a flop house he had found on the Bowery. Since then CBGB, the internationally acclaimed birthplace of new wave, has had to close because of unaffordable rent on that very street.

Assuming that you can get the necessary visa to live in the US, it is likely that you would have to live off Manhattan and possibly out of the city. Think of Hoboken NJ as much cheaper alternative. You would, of course be a ‘Bridge&Tunnel’ which is the NYC equivalent of being someone from Milton Keynes.

My friend, you first need to visit New York City and see how the city look like in real life. Don’t believe what you see in the movies and TV show, because that’s who the producers in Hollywood makes them. New York City has the lowest crime rate since 1963, I’ll repeat again, New York City has the lowest crime rate since 1963.

Now, if you like the city and want to move here, may suggest not living in Manhattan. The borough does not have any affordable apartment available. The best and affordable place to live will be outside of Manhattan, in the boroughs of Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island. Manhattan is way too pricey for a florist.

I hope this information very helpful. Good luck.

There are many parts of Manhattan that are good. Florists make good money here. Try to have beautiful plants as well as nice flowers.

    Hi!
The most affordable part of Manhattan is definitely the Lower East End. It’s where most of the young people working in the creative arts (and therefore don’t have a huge starting salary) live in NY. You should be able to find a room there for around 1100 dollars, more or less.
If you are looking for something cheaper, bust still want a nice neighbourhood, Williamsburgh (which is right in front of the Lower East End) in Brooklyn is definitely a place worth checking out. It’s a hipa and trendy neighbourhood at only a few stops from the city!
Last but not least, you should check out Long Island City, the "new Williamsburgh" in Queens. It’s only one stop from Manhattan, it’s an up and coming neighbourhood and you will definitely be able to find a room in a decent house for an affordable rent!
    Good luck!
