I was just on a site that was telling people’s wedding stories and this is what I saw…
Venues: St Fransiscus Church; Beach reception on Renaissance Island
Hometown: New York City
Wedding Date: July 26, 2008
Bride’s Dress Designer: Demetrios
Bridesmaids’ Dresses: Butter dress by Nadia
Florist: Provided by the hotel
Photographer: Diana M. Lott Photography
Wedding Coordinator: June Jones
Honeymoon: Island hopping in Hawaii
Trash the Dress Location: Various spots along the North Shore of Aruba
Rob & I decided we wanted to do something different. We had gone to a bunch of weddings recently and wanted ours to be unique. After visiting Aruba in January of 2007, we fell in love with Renaissance Island. The Renaissance Aruba Hotel owns a small island ten minutes by boat off the coast! The boat picks you up from the lobby of the hotel and brings you straight there.
My question is…what the hell is with the "trash the dress location"? I’ve never heard of this before.
It’s where you go with your photographer the day after your wedding (or when you return from your honeymoon) to take relaxed pics in your wedding attire. Contrary to popular belief, there is no damage done to your dress unless you want to do something drastic to it. No one is requiring that you do it, and more people than not actually don’t do it.
It is a type of photoshoot that was introduced just a couple years ago by L.A. photographer Jessica Claire under the name "day after shoot". Somehow along the way, the name was changed into something that is offensive to many people even though there is no damage done to the attire, but it throws them off anyway.
Lol, "trash the dress" means people go somewhere and basically ruin their dress. It’s sort of a symbol of commitment. It can make for some nice pictures- I saw pictures of a bride who trashed her dress in the ocean, which is what I assume the bride you read about was doing. Walking in the ocean in her dress ruined it, but the pictures were gorgeous.

It’s a new trend where the bride takes artistic inspired (but sometimes not artistic too) photos in her wedding dress. I had a friend that jumped into the ocean (in the Caribbean) after her wedding. The photographer captured pictures of her and her groom playing in the water in their wedding attire.
Other brides have taken pictures on the sandy beach, in the woods or other areas where the dress can be ruined (aka trashed) by the elements.

Trashing the dress is a new fad where you do just that.. trash the dress. It makes for some great pictures and you have more fun with it than just sticking it in a box. It can be pretty controversial.. some people really hate the idea of a bride trashing a 5000 dollar dress, while some love the whimsical-ness of it.

where she takes photos in the ocean, but doesn’t necessarily ruin her dress.
idk. lol! it sounds pretty stupid to me! i mean to pay all of that money for a dress just to trash it is ridiculous!!

I have seen where it is a huge party with the bride who completely lets the bridal party and grooms guest trash the dress to the point it could never be reused!!! Hint…"means this is it!!!"

I don’t understand why you would trash your dress. I don’t think it means "forever". Who gets married the second time around in the same dress? Keep it nice so you can pass it down, get your babies baptismal gown made out of it, or if doesn’t work out have it nice so you can sell in on ebay:)

That is one of the dumbest new customs I ever heard of, hopefully you won’t go with the fad.
